As I’m typing this blog post, I remember the days that being a full time blogger allowed me to have a flexible schedule which was beneficial having three children. I was able to meal plan appropriately and do other things before they all came home from school. Now that I’m working full-time in addition to blogging full time, I swear there is not enough hours in the day. It is so easy to leave work, pick the kiddies up from after-care and go to the nearest drive through for a quick snack before dinner is ready. But feeding my children that junk day after day is not healthy at all and I’ve decided to make a change. That’s why I’m so excited to partner up with Whole Kids Foundation
to help raise awareness about the importance of childhood nutrition.
Whole Kids Foundation announced the launch of the 2015 Growing Healthy Kids Campaign in Whole Foods Market stores. Whole Kids Foundation supports schools and inspires families to make healthy food choices- whether it is through the funding of salad bars and edible gardens or by providing nutrition education classes for teachers. This year, the Growing Healthy Kids Campaign is striving to raise $4 million to help over one million kids gain access to fresh produce. Last year alone, this same campaign helped WKF fund 600 salad bars, 1,000 garden grants, and provide nutrition education to 4,000 teachers.
Honestly, I have a little struggle with the kids wanting to eat healthy food but I decided to bring them with me to pick the ingredients out themselves and be apart of the decision making on what they eat. My children decided that they wanted me to make Turkey and Cheese Pinwheels with Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus and apples and yogurt on the side.
Turkey and Cheese Pinwheels
- Slices of Turkey
- Tortilla Wraps (whole wheat preferably)
- Block of Cheese to shred
- Lettuce or any greens
|Assemble the wrap to your liking
- Spread the hummus all over the tortilla wrap
- On one side of the wrap, layer your greens and turkey slices
- Then shred whatever cheese you choose
- You can also add avocados, tomatoes or any fresh veggies
- Start to roll your wrap tightly till you get to the other side of the wrap
- Cut your wrap in several slices which will create pinwheels
- Add apple slices and greek yogurt on the side for fun dipping
