[Review] My Experience with the 2014 Cadillac ELR

Disclosure: I was not financially compensated for this post. I received the privilege of test driving the 2014 Cadillac ELR for one week for review purposes. My opinions are completely my own based on my experience.
Now, we can begin!

When I put on a new outfit or get a new hairstyle, I feel like a brand new person. Well that’s how I felt this past week when I was provided the opportunity to test drive the 2014 Cadillac ELR. Allow me to take you on a ride of different emotions that I experienced while I drove this spaceship on wheels!

INTERIOR/EXTERIOR
When my good friends at Prestige Auto pulled up to my home with this car, I was in pure AWE! The design itself is in a class of its own. I was almost hesitant to get inside because of the futuristic look and feel. I also fell in love with the 20 inch aluminum rims, which complimented the ELR. The interior had this sleek Kona Brown with Jet black accent leather seating. The led headlamps and tail lamps are head turners especially at night! When I turned on the car for the first time, it felt like I was actually entering a spaceship. It was the kind of sound effect that makes you feel you’re about to prepare for take-off. The front seating has about 16 adjustable ways so you can be comfortable while driving. And whats cool about it is the driver seat memorizes your settings so every time you enter the car it automatically remembers how you had your seat previously.

DASHBOARD
The Cadillac ELR’s dashboard is interactive with an 8 inch touchscreen that controls everything from navigation to the media center. I automatically hooked up my Iphone 5s via Bluetooth so I can ride through the streets with my music. The bonus of hooking up your phone by Bluetooth is the ability to make and receive phone calls through the car’s stereo system without risking an accident by using your phone while driving. There are also 3 usb ports that you can connect to. The sound system is crisp and it also has noise cancellation capabilities. Other features include a weather app, Pandora radio, GPS, Climate control, and also Energy option to see the flow of electricity through the car, which I’ll talk about below. My children were scheduled for a medical procedure at Miami Childrens Hospital and I usually take the same route but this time I drove on the turnpike and I forgot which exit to get off at. So I decided to use the On-Star feature to guide me. I was amazed on how the On-Star rep sent me turn by turn directions instead of me having to type out the address on the navigation screen. Watch the video below on that experience along with pictures of the dashboard.

THE DRIVE
So are you excited already just from all the features the 2014 Cadillac ELR has? Well let me tell you about the icing on the cake. When I turned on the car, not by using a key but just a power button, it didnt feel like the Cadillac was on. I kept checking to see if I really turned it on or just powered it on. That is how quiet the system is! So when I finally figured it out, it was smooth sailing from there. Did I forget to mention that the 2014 Cadillac ELR doesnt run by gas alone but by electricity! I was excited because this was my first time operating an electrical vehicle. A full electric charge gives you about 37 miles on electricity thats stored in the battery and about 330 miles on electricity stored in the battery and developed by the generator. This is all before you’re using premium gasoline. On the dashboard you can monitor the flow of electricity and you also have 4 different Modes of Transportation to choose from…Tour, Sport, Mountain and Hold modes. It took me some time to really understand how to get the most electric usage by using each mode but I eventually figured it out. I was able to charge the car using my 120-volt outlets inside my home. Since I dont have outside outlets, I parked the car a little close to my front door and plugged up with the charger that comes with the vehicle. Charging it at home takes about 12 hours which I was kind of concerned if my electric bill would be shy high next month. I totally forgot to call Florida Power and Light to see if it would affect my bill. But I did find out that there are numerous charge stations in my area. I downloaded an app called “Charge Point” and it helped me locate all the stations around town that were either fee based or free. So I charged at Whole Foods Market in Pembroke Pines, FL and it only took 5 hours and it was free! Driving all over Miami and Fort Lauderdale with the 2014 Cadillac ELR was exciting, especially to see the endless stares from everyone. I was stopped plenty of times by on-lookers asking me if this is the new Cadillac. Even at red lights I got TONS of compliments like “Hey I love your car”! My initial response was to say I’m only test driving it but hey, you only live once so my replies were “Thank You”! I also want to mention another cool feature which is the rain sense windshield wipers. It was pouring all last week in South Florida and to my surprise as I was driving, the windshield wipers came on. How cool is that?!

My overall experience experience with the 2014 Cadillac ELR was memorable. As a mother of 3 (which my children LOVED riding in), it made me feel like a hip and stylish mom and still feel extra safe in this vehicle. If you’re looking for luxury, security, safety and performance…this is the car for you!
